As Easy as Pie

Yes, it's true!  I did it.  I made an apple pie!  And it was much easier than I expected.

The apples smelled wonderful as I peeled them.  The smell actually reminded me of my mother, who always ate an apple at night, peeling it as we watched TV.  Nice memory.

No, I did not make the crust from scratch.  But that's just between you and me, right?  And when it came time to vent the top, I figured I might as well be creative.  My first Little Red House pie.

And yes, it tasted pretty damn good, if I do say so myself.  :)

Thanks for all your encouragement.  One slight problem, though.  Neither my husband nor my daughter likes apple pie.  So I will have to eat the whole thing myself.  What a shame!

  1. Hi Mary! Your pie looks fabulous and I'll bet it really does taste as good as it looks! I'm with your family though, I don't eat apple pie (unless it's drowned in ice-cream lol), but I do like a nice crisp apple like your mum. Wishing you a lovely day!

  2. Yum!! I hope you have some left overs - I'll be right over!!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia :)

  3. Your pie looks delicious. My Mom used to make the best apple pie in the whole World, at least I thought so. You're up early, like me! Have a wonderful day.

  4. Well, good for you! Looks delicious!
What's wrong with your daughter and hubby? Are they nuts? Apple pie is fab! :D
Oh well, I guess it is just one more sacrifice you will have to make for their sake! hehehehehe!
    Have a great day!

  5. You did it!!! And, it is beautiful. Are you going to eat the whole thing at once, or pace yourself? ;-)

  6. Oh yes, that's going to be rough, Mary! What a beautiful pie you created.

  7. I would like to volunterr to help you eat that pie Mary, but I think by the time I got to your house it might be gone:>) Good for you for making it! I just can't wrap my head around not liking apple pie!

  8. Yum, yum, yum! Where's the Vanilla ice cream? ; )

No neighbor to split your pie with? Enjoy every bite! How could your family not like Apple Pie?

  9. You will have to make the ultimate sacrifice and eat that pie yourself! Congratulations - as I made my first apple pies this year, I totally understand your pride in this accomplishment!

  10. It looks delicious Mary and remember that apples are good for you (pretend the crust is too)! An Apple a day and all that! I can justify almost anything when it comes to food.

  11. That looks so good! I grew up eating apple grandmother was always making apple pies! She also used to peel apples and eat them everyday. She lived to be 96 (she was born in 1889) so an apple a day did keep the doctor away!

My daughter and I both LOVE apple pie so we could eat one in about 2 days!

  12. Great looking pie, hope that you enjoy every bite. There is nothing like a good piece of pie....first thing in the morning.
For some reason, I can't even make store bought pie crust, even the preformed ones flop all over. LOL. The filling tastes good, and no one ever complains.

  13. Too bad you have to eat it all alone. I'm sure some nice blogger would pop over for a bite. It sure looks good!! Sally

  14. Mmmm... Your pie looks delicious! :)

  15. Hooray for you Mary, It looks delish !!!

Just curious what kind (s) of apples did you use ???

Nothing like a cup of tea and a slice of apple pie I say.....yum

Hugs and smiles coming your way,

    Kathy :)

  16. I must go buy apples today! Your pie looks delish. I have made apple pies before and am always amazed at how well they turn out.

  17. thanks to everyone!!! Kathy, I used Macoun apples, mainly because those are the kind my daughter likes to eat, and they were on sale by the bag...

  18. Bravo Mary!
Good for you! :) sometimes the treats we can't share are made even sweeter by the fact that they are all ours!

  19. It looks delicious, Mary. Enjoy!

  20. Hi Mary...your pie looked really good for what I assume was your first try...I never make crust from scratch and I think it tastes just as good. I'm making apple strudel tonight with my favorite Mutsu apples but unlike your family the Boss will eat the whole thing leaving me merely scraps....

  21. YUUUUMMMYYY! I can just taste that piece of pie.
It looks wonderful and I love the touch of using your initials I'll have remember that.. :o)
    Great picture too.
Come by and visit when you have some time.

  22. It looks delicious. And that's just such a shame about no one else liking it! hehe. It will be so terrible to have to eat it all yourself. I wish I lived close enough to come steal a piece.
You should be very proud of yourself. I think it looks like you did a FINE job. And I love the memory of your mom and the apple.

  23. Now you are complete. Everyone should bake an apple pie at once in their lives, dontcha think? Yours looks excellent!

  24. It looks so pretty! How I love the smell of an apple pie Poor Mary had to eat all the delicious pie herself? Did you add milk? Ice cream? Whipped cream?

I think such a pie looks as wonderful as it surely tastes...and it tastes like Fall. : )

  25. Yummy goodness!!!
    Good Morning Sweet Mary!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment. I love to hear what you have to say!
