I Love Flowers

I love flowers; but I guess you all figured that out by now.  :)  I also love big, beautiful, glossy books about flowers.  Which is why I LOVE this book:  A Passion for Flowers, by Carolyne Roehm.  My sweet family gave it to me for my birthday.

It is absolutely filled with gorgeous flowers, arranged in beautiful containers.  In fact, as a thrift store addict, the containers make me almost as giddy as the blooms themselves.

These photos really do not do it justice.  I really need to start scanning them.  Wouldn't you love to have this gorgeous all-white arrangement, in it's lovely footed crystal bowl?

It is a wonderful coffee table book to peruse on a cold and dreary winter's day.

And it is giving me some terrific ideas...  I'd love to start featuring a flower arrangement in a unique thrift store find here in the blog.  Maybe once every couple of weeks?  We all need some flowers to get through the winter, right?  ;)

  1. Good morning, Mary...it's 5:25am and I am up and ready to embrace the day. Got lots of things on my TO DO list.
The flower book looks lovely...I know how you lone for spring by this time of the year...and, I, on the other hand, hang onto winter with all my might!! Love wintertime but, then again, we don't have all the snow and really cold weather that a lot of other states have. As you know, the fires in the fireplace, the books, the hot tea...all these things that make up wintertime are just plain good for my soul.
I think your idea of flowers in a pretty container will be great in your blog...you'll love doing it and we will all love seeing them..

  19. My grandmother used to skip lunch on her shopping trips in NYC in order to buy flowers to bring home to her dinner table. I inherited her love of cut flowers, and luckily I have a husband who usually brings them to me. Mary, as always -- wonderful pictures!

  20. Oh Mary, I passed up a footed crystal bowl thinking "what would I use it for"?...Ugh! I'm going to have to go back now! Gee I hope it's still there! Thanks for the pretty ideas.

  21. Oooooh, these are lovely flower arrangements! It's too bad I have to be careful with flowers in my flat -- Cara, my cat tends to nibble on them. (Another of our cats used to munch even on the cactus!) However, this week I bought some artifical flowers to put into my Old Britain Castles tea pot. :-)

  23. Oh yes, you're right, I know I DO need flowers, most of the time, and now more than ever with winter stretching on and on and on... Your beautiful pictures had the effect of an electric shock and now I feel this URGE to go buy a bouquet... Well, maybe I won't have to wait long, with Valentine's Day coming up I might just get one ! (or so I hope, my husband has never been much of a bouquet-buyer... VBSigh

  24. That Carolyne Roehm book is one of my absolute favorites. I have all of the seasonal notebooks as well. That woman has amazing style and an enormous budget. I do the exact same thing as you...look at the book and try to find similar containers at the thrift store or on eBay. In fact, the wire basket in the photo above is one that I have found. I got an exact one on eBay for under $15 with shipping. Now I need to grow enough flowers to do an arrangement in it.
